Be A Force For Change
The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week long, social media-driven campaign that uses the iconic little black dress to raise awareness about the factors that contribute to poverty and assist us in fundraising to further our efforts improving the lives of women and children in our community.
During the week of November 8 - 14, 2020, The Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties, Inc. (JLKD) invites its members, family, and friends to wear the same black dress or outfit for 5 consecutive days. Paired with a button encouraging people to Ask Me About My Dress, participants will spark conversation and spread awareness of the impact of poverty in our community and raise funds to further our mission. JLKD is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
JLKD aspires to support underserved women and children in Kane and DuPage Counties by improving access to educational advancement opportunities, furthering household stability, and promoting childhood well-being and nutrition through our various community programs, direct service, and advocacy. JLKD has partnered with over 30 community organizations throughout Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties across the Western suburbs of Chicago to improve the quality of life for women and children at-risk in our communities.
Each year our members volunteer hundreds of hours to advance our mission and our goal of developing the potential of women in Chicago’s Western Suburbs. JLKD members work together to identify unmet needs, forge effective coalitions, and create change through our scholarship and grant program, community programs, and donor support. Not only does JLKD work to better the community, we also develop the potential of our members through leadership training opportunities.

- Wear Black: Sign up (click "Join the Campaign" above) to raise awareness and funds to fight the factors that contribute to and perpetuate poverty. Both women and men can participate by wearing a black dress or outfit for 5 consecutive days.
